1351. J&K Over 1,300 Villages Get 100% Tap Water Under Jal Jeevan Mission
- Few public initiatives have delivered as tangible a benefit in Jammu & Kashmir as the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). In 2019, only about 30% of the Union Territory’s rural households had piped drinking water; by early 2025, that share has risen to over 81%.
- In real terms, more than 15 lakh rural families now enjoy a functional tap at home, yielding tangible improvements in daily convenience and public health. Such rapid gains in a region with difficult terrain and a history of patchy services reflect effective administration, engineering innovation, and grassroots participation in equal measure.
- Since 2019, over 1300 villages in J&K now have 100% of households with running water. Importantly, local Gram Panchayats in 824 of these villages have verified and declared every household as having a safe tap supply, earning them the Har Ghar Jal certification under JJM.
- More than 1,100 new wells and tube-wells have been constructed or augmented, roughly 1,700 water treatment plants installed, 500 Over Head Tanks, 8000 plus service reservoirs and an extensive network of 60,000 km of water pipelines laid across both plains and remote hamlets.

1352. At 13,000 Feet, Skampuk Village in Ladakh Gets Tap Water for the First Time
- The Jal Jeevan Mission reached a major milestone recently, when it provided clean drinking water to a remote village in Ladakh. The residents of Skampuk village in Leh's Nubra block now get potable water even in sub-zero temperature.
- The village is located at a height of 13,000 feet. What makes this achievement significant is that the people living all 105 households here are getting water which is not frozen. it has been made possible by an insulation jacket around the pipe.
- The day temperature in Skampuk is recorded minus 3 degrees Celsius, and it plunges to minus 11 degrees Celsius during the night. Still, the people living here are facing no issues with water supply.
- Under the Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal scheme, every rural household is to be provided with a functional tap water connection.

1353. After 75 Years, Remote Villages in Ladakh Finally Receive Tap Water Connections
- About 75 years after the independence, several habitations of Union Territory of Ladakh have started getting tap water supply as despite challenging terrain and extreme climatic conditions the administration is leaving no stone unturned to implement the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) of the Government of India.
- There are a total of 44076 households in Ladakh and till August 15, 2019 only 1414 households were covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission because of varied reasons.
- Since the formation of Union Territory the implementation of Mission has picked up remarkably and this can be gauged from the official figures which reveal that as on today 9423 households have been provided tap water connections.
- For the first time since independence, all the households in 15 villages—three in Kargil and 12 in Leh district have been provided tap water connections under the Mission by the Union Territory administration and work stands allotted in respect of remaining villages and by August 15 next year all the 44076 households will have tap water connections.

1354. Umla Village in Ladakh Gets Tap Water for the First Time Under Jal Jeevan Mission
- The Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide safe drinking tap water by 2024, has begun transforming lives in various parts of the country. \
- In the Umla village in Leh in the Union territory of Ladakh, households located in the harsh mountain terrain received tap water supply for the first time under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Umla, which is home to just 25 families, is now the 12th village that has access to tap water supply even in sub-zero temperatures.

1355. PM Modi inaugurates various metro railway projects in Kolkata, flags off key routes
- Prime Minister on 22 August, 2025 flagged off the various metro railway projects in Kolkata in line with his commitment to world-class infrastructure and developed urban connectivity.
- The Sealdah-Esplanade metro will reduce the travel time between the two points from nearly 40 minutes to only 11 minutes. The Beleghata-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro section will play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity with the IT hub.
- PM visited Jessore Road Metro Station, inaugurated the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar, Sealdah–Esplanade, and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro services, flagged off projects via video conferencing, and undertook a metro ride from Jessore Road to Jai Hind Bimanbandar and back.
1356. Sikkim Launches New Ambulance Services To Boost Emergency Healthcare
- On August 21 2025, Sikkim CM Prem flagged off the expanded 102/108 Ambulance Service in Sikkim, joined by Health Minister.
- The service integrates 102 (maternal and infant care) and 108 (trauma and emergency) ambulances into a single system, equipped with BLS facilities and trained staff for efficient patient support.
- Expanded with nine new ambulances, the initiative provides free, 24×7 transport for emergencies, referrals, and postnatal care, reinforcing the state’s commitment to timely and accessible healthcare.

1357. Arunachal CM Launches ‘SPICE’ Initiative To Strengthen Panchayats
- On 22 August, 2025, CM launched the SPICE reform framework in Arunachal Pradesh to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
- The initiative devolves all 29 subjects under the 11th Schedule to panchayats, enhancing their role in planning, implementation, and decision-making for community projects.

1358. India Sends First Trial Shipment of Garhwali Apples to Dubai, Boosting Agri Exports

1359. Kerala is now India’s first digitally literate state: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
- On 21 August, 2025 in Thiruvananthapuram, CM declared Kerala the first fully digitally literate state in India under the Digi Kerala project.
- Phase II includes digitising all citizen documents through DigiLocker, ensuring cybercrime awareness, and making 9,000+ services accessible online via K-SMART.
- NRIs can access services remotely, citizens can obtain certificates or file police complaints online, and even a 105-year-old man was part of the initiative, symbolising inclusivity.
1360. Assam Cabinet Approves ₹600-Crore Youth Skill Development Project
- The Assam cabinet has approved a ₹600-crore skill development initiative aimed at establishing education centres across the state, Chief Minister announced on 21 August, 2025.
- The project will be jointly funded by the Assam government and Tata-owned Nelco Limited, which has been designated as the state’s strategic partner for the mission.
- Under the initiative, 50 hub centres and 500 spoke centres will be set up across Assam to provide skill-based training to youths. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA).
